FAQ

Version 1.6.2 is free and based on version 1.6.1, which was released in April 2006. It includes various bug fixes and minor improvements over that version. ZaraStudio 4 is a different application with significant structural changes aimed at better handling of local disconnections in station networks and managing ad schedules. It also offers more advanced features for creating random music programming.

No, because the application requires a USB dongle to function.

No. We have focused exclusively on Windows since it is the most widely used operating system. Currently, there are no plans to port ZaraStudio to any other platform.

ZaraStudio allows you to connect to Internet radio streams in MP3, WMA, and AAC+ formats. To do this, go to List > Add Internet Radio. Enter the connection duration and the stream URL. Make sure to enter the actual stream address, not M3U, PLS, or ASX playlist links (e.g., http://10.0.0.48:8000).

ZaraStudio has a song end detector enabled by default. As soon as it detects a low audio level at the end of a file, it automatically jumps to the next item in the list. With short files like jingles or promos, this can cause premature skipping. To prevent this, you can set a specific overlap time for each file. This is done by renaming the file and adding the suffix ~ followed by the overlap time in seconds. For example, the file Jingle~0.mp3 will always play to the end, as it has zero seconds of overlap. In version 4, it is also possible to adjust the mix point directly in the audio item’s database entry.

We currently accept three payment methods: bank transfer, PayPal, and credit card.

ZaraStudio 4 costs €240 plus VAT and shipping. It is a perpetual license, so you only have to pay once for the software. For small radio stations, we also offer the free ZaraRadio Free Edition.

Any modern computer capable of running Windows should suffice. As a guideline, we suggest the following minimum requirements:

  • Core i3 processor or better.
  • 4 GB of RAM.
  • Two Windows-compatible sound cards (or one if you don’t plan to use the Cue function).
  • Windows 10 or 11.
  • Graphics card and monitor with a minimum resolution of 1920x1080 pixels.

ZaraStudio itself is not an Internet broadcasting program, but rather an audio playback automation tool. However, it can be used alongside other streaming programs to broadcast ZaraStudio’s output online. Some examples of such programs are OddCast, Butt, or WinAmp with the Shoutcast plugin.

In the Downloads section, you will find several free time announcement packages available in two formats: EXE and ZIP. The EXE file includes an installer that automatically copies the announcements to your computer. The ZIP file is intended for advanced users. To install it, you need to extract it into the Time folder of ZaraStudio (usually C:\Program Files\ZaraSoft\ZaraStudio\Time). The MP3 files must be placed directly inside the Time folder, not in any subfolder.

Since version 4, weather data is downloaded automatically by ZaraStudio, without the need for external applications.
